I’ve been a Google Calendar enthusiast from the day it was released.
Why? Because first it provided me with a quality personal calendar that I could access anytime, anywhere via the Internet. Then because it provided a way I could append a Google calender of events to my Good Boot blog. And of late because I can use Google calendar to sync my Outlook Calendar and Contacts to my Android.
I’m sure iPhone and iPod users are aware of how to sync Outlook. However maybe there are Good Booters who are unaware that Google offers a utility that will allow them to sync their Outlook Calendar and Contacts to their Android.
Google Calendar Sync is compatible with Outlook 2003, 2007 and most recently 2010 (32 bit).
To install Google Calendar all you need to do is follow its wizard. In fact it took me only a few minutes to install and configure Google’s Calendar to sync with my Verizon Android.
It’s this simple. After creating a Google Calendar account you’ll be asked to close your Outlook and choose a Google Calendar sync option and the time between its syncs.
The sync option you select will determined the way in which you want Google to sync your data between its calendar and your Outlook.
Your options are:
* 2 way Sync: All events in your primary Google Calendar and your Outlook calendar will be synced. You can modify an event in either your Google Calendar or your Outlook calendar and it will sync in the other.
* 1 way Google Calendar to Outlook: All events in your Google Calendar will be added to your Outlook calendar. If you want modified events to show on both calendars you’ll need to update the event in the Google Calendar. Events modified in the Outlook calendar will not appear in the Google Calendar.
* 1 way Outlook to Google Calendar: All events in your Outlook calendar will be added to your Google Calendar. If you want modified events to show on both calendars you’ll need to update the events in your Outlook calendar. Events modified in your Google Calendar will not be shown in your Outlook calendar.
To modify your Sync options, manually sync Google Calendar, and access additional information on Google’s Web site, right click on the Google Calendar sync icon in your Taskbar Notification area.
Note: Currently Google sync will only sync your primary Google calendar and Outlook default calendar.
Google sync is compatible with Windows XP (32 bit), Vista, and Windows 7.
Here’s wishing you a Good Boot.
