I’m not sure why so many Windows 7 Good Booters are so nostalgic about the XP\Vista “Quick Launch”. Perhaps it’s because Windows 7 will not allow them to Pin all their important Desktop shortcuts to their Taskbar.
But be as it may, there seems to enough of them to warrant a how to launch a Windows 7 Quick Launch tutorial.
1. Right click on an empty space on your taskbar and left click Toolbars then New Toolbar.
2. In the Folder: line of the New Toolbar pane, type the following:
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
3. Click on the Select Folder button
On your new Taskbar Quick Launch toolbar click on the >> arrow to view your current default Quick Launch shortcuts.
To Expand the Quick Launch Toolbar:
1. Unlock the taskbar, right click on your Taskbar, and if “lock the taskbar” is checked, uncheck it.
2. Left click and hold on the Taskbar dotted lines and drag the dotted lines to the left or right to view all the icons.
3. After adjusting your icons to your satisfaction, release your pointer.
4. Lock your taskbar.
To Remove Quick Launch Toolbar Icon Text or Title:
1. Unlock the taskbar.
2. Right click on the Quick Launch toolbar title name, then uncheck the “Show Text” and “Show Title” by clicking on them.
3. Lock your taskbar.
To adjust the Quick Launch Toolbar Icons to Large or Small Icons:
1. Unlock your taskbar.
2. Right click on the Quick Launch toolbar title name, then click on “View” and select either Large Icons or Small Icons.
3. Lock your taskbar.
To Have Quick Launch Toolbar on Left side of your Taskbar
1. Unlock your taskbar.
2. Left click on the dotted lines on the left side of your current pinned taskbar programs (probably your Library and IE icons). Hold and drag it to the right, past the Quick Launch toolbar, and release.
3. The Quick Launch toolbar is now on the left side of the taskbar.
4. Lock your taskbar.
Note: To insure your Quick Launch remains on our Taskbar it’s important you save your current Desktop theme by right clicking on your Desktop and in the Personalization pane scrolling down to and clicking on “Save theme”.
To remove Quick Launch: Right click on an empty space on the Taskbar, click Toolbars, and uncheck Quick Launch.
Quick Launch’s most significant feature is that it’ll accept program shortcuts that cannot be “Pinned” to the Windows 7 Toolbar.
Here’s wishing you a Good Boot.
